What is drag clicking?
Drag clicking means sliding your fingertip along the mouse button instead of pressing it. The friction makes your finger skip across the button, and each tiny skip registers as a click. One drag can produce dozens of clicks in about a second, which is why it's popular in Minecraft for building bridges quickly and in PvP.
Your scores on this page are saved separately from the standard CPS test. The test starts at 5 seconds because drags come in short bursts; you can pick another length above.
How to drag click
- Dry, clean fingers. Skin needs a little grip. Wash and dry your hands; slightly sweaty or greasy fingers just slide.
- Start at the top. Put your fingertip on the front of the left button.
- Drag down slowly with light pressure. Pull your finger towards you across the button. You should feel it vibrate as it catches and releases.
- Adjust the pressure. Too light and nothing happens; too hard and your finger just presses the button down. Most people need a few tries to find it.
- Repeat. Lift, return to the top and drag again. Practised drag clickers chain several drags together.
Can my mouse drag click?
Not every mouse can. Two things matter:
- The button surface. A matte or textured button gives your finger grip. Very smooth or glossy buttons are hard to drag on. Some players add grip tape.
- The debounce time. Mice ignore extra clicks that arrive within a few milliseconds of each other, to prevent accidental double clicks. If the debounce time is long, most of your drag clicks are filtered out. Some mouse apps let you lower it.
If you drag and the counter barely moves, try a different mouse or check its software for a debounce setting before blaming your technique.
What CPS can you expect?
Drag clicking produces far higher CPS than normal clicking. Results vary a lot with the mouse, but good drags often reach 20 to 40 clicks per second or more in short bursts. Normal clicking is usually 6 to 8 CPS, jitter clicking 10 to 14, and butterfly clicking often a little higher.
Is drag clicking allowed?
It's a manual technique, so on many servers it's simply a skill. Some servers cap clicks per second or ban drag clicking because it's so fast, so check the rules of the one you play on. Lowering a mouse's debounce time can also make it double-click by accident in everyday use.
Frequently asked questions
Does drag clicking damage the mouse?
It wears the button surface and the switch faster than normal clicking. Many players keep a separate mouse for it.
Why does it hurt my finger?
Friction heats the skin. Keep sessions short and use light pressure. Grip tape on the button helps you drag with less force.
Does it work on a phone?
No. Drag clicking needs a physical mouse button. On a phone the test counts taps instead.
